James Thompson papers, 1895, 1906-1921.

Papers of James Thompson, a La Crosse, Wisconsin, lawyer and progressive Republican, consisting mainly of correspondence relating to his candidacy in 1918 and 1920 for the Republican senatorial nomination and his defeat in 1920 as an independent candidate for that office. Among the exchanges concerning the political scene are numerous letters from Robert M. La Follette and other Wisconsin progressives. The collection also contains an undated volume of notes for the teaching of public speaking kept by his sister Gena S. Thompson.
